Happy last day of 2025!Β
Not every day was full of perfect learning moments.
But somewhere between the broken copy machines and the constant grade tracking, something magical happened in 2025.Β
You kept showing up.Β
You kept believing in kids who stopped believing in themselves, and you turned classrooms into places where futures actually get built. Thatβs the one thing that wonβt change in 2026.Β
But the thing about new years in education is that they're not about grand resolutions that last until January 15th. They're about showing up for the people who need it most.Β
And for every teacher, administrator, and support staff member reading this, weβre in awe of you.Β
Thatβs why we do what we do.

Hereβs whatβs on the dashboard this week:Β
Happy New Year!
From Our Desk: The projects weβre most proud of in 2025
Watch of the Week: Cranky teachers do it better

Hereβs to every teacher, principal, and support staff who made 2025 work, one impossible day at a time.Β We wish you the very best in 2026βand every year after!

Weβve done a lot this year and thereβs no chance weβre slowing down. Just a few of our major projects that weβre continuing into the new year:
Released this newsletter, On The Subject, that youβre reading right now (refer a friend for a chance to be featured!)
Opened a second office in Austin, Texas
Named one of LinkedInβs top 50 startups to watch for 2025
Released an entire Middle School suite for grades 6-8
And just a few of the exciting moments from the Subject platform this year:
We hit 58,000+ completed enrollments in 2025
Our enrollment completion rate was 81%
The average exam score across all of our virtual classes was 82%
But we couldnβt do any of this without our favorite people: teachers!

Our pick of the week: The Holdovers
Why Weβre Obsessed: The Oscar-nominated film captures the weird magic that happens between Christmas and New Year's, when time feels suspended and unlikely friendships form over shared misery. It's all about intergenerational understanding wrapped in snowy holiday vibesβproving that the most life-changing conversations happen when a cranky teacher, a grieving cook, and a stranded student are stuck together with nothing but honesty and hot chocolate.
Recommended lesson integration:
Creative writing | Character development through conflict: Watch how Paul Giamatti's character reveals depth through small moments instead of grand speeches. Every student who thinks drama means shouting should take notesβ¦
Social studies | Class and privilege in 1970s America: Perfect for discussing economic inequality without making it feel like eating vegetables (even though vegetables are good for you)
Literature | Coming-of-age themes in modern storytelling: Finally, a way to discuss personal growth that doesn't involve "The Catcher in the Rye" for the millionth time!
History | Research project on boarding school culture: Students can compare 1970s elite education with today's systems. Spoiler Alert! Some things never changeβ¦
Psychology/Health | Understanding grief and loss in adolescent development: Heavy topics made accessible through genuinely good storytelling
Film studies | How setting influences character relationships: Perfect for discussing how environment shapes behavior, unlike most movies that forget setting exists
Thank you for joining us for another edition of On The Subject. Weβll see you again in 2026!
